Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Where is Phil?

Just listening to 1/20/79...Out of the Estimated jam, which goes into The Other One Jerry seems to beg Phil to get involved - but he's not really there. Hard to have TOO w/o Phil.
Made me think Phil isn't real "vocal" past '77. I know there are exceptions (10/27/79, etc.), but his bass seems to be missing in the later years.
Is he uninvolved? The way things were mixed?
EDIT: This seems to be about the time when Bob starts to carry more of the load.

this may be more to that specific show, however, there was a period in the early 80s, mostly 80-81, where his bass is very low on the soundboards, hes more present in the auds, however by the time he gets his 6 string in 82 it seems that there is a slight shift in the way the sbds are mixed, Lesh was then on more consistently very present on the sbds...Weirs guitar is usually what gets shortchanged the most...
